The Pasqua Interchange at the intersection of Highway 11 just north of Reginawill enter the final stage of construction this season.
"The $2.9 million project for the remaining grading and surfacing work is
expected to begin in early June and should be completed by late September,"
Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Completion of this
job will require an estimated 81 full-time workers."
W.F. Botkin Construction Ltd. of Regina was awarded this contract as the lowest
of three bidders.
"The Highway 11 and Pasqua Street intersection has been a safety concern for
our department for several years," Sonntag said. "The number of accidents had
been going up as a result of increased traffic at this intersection.
"Our investment into this interchange will certainly improve safety at this
location."
Stage One of the roadway construction began in June 1999 with the twinning of
Pasqua Street and relocation of the off-ramp, grid road and IPSCO pond.
When finished, Pasqua Street will pass over Highway 11 with three open lanes
across the bridge (two northbound and one southbound). A second southbound
lane will begin from the Highway 11 off-ramp to Pasqua Street. The total cost
of this interchange will be close to $7 million.
Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different
highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the
largest in the department's history.
Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for
construction signs and equipment.
