PAVING HIGHWAY 6 NEAR SOUTHEY

Released on July 19, 2000

Resurfacing is set to start this week on 12.2 kilometers (km) of Highway 6

beginning at Southey and continuing south. Another 3.8 km of Highway 6 will be

paved north of Raymore.

"Work for this $2.1 million project is expected to be completed by mid-August,"

Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Completion of this

job will require an estimated 24 full-time jobs."

Ramco Paving Ltd. of Regina was awarded this contract as the lowest of seven

bidders.

Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different

highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the

largest in the department's history.

"Highway 6 is a major north/south corridor for travellers in our province,"

Sonntag said. "As our budget increases so does our ability to invest in the

preservation and maintenance of our provincial highways."

Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for

construction signs and equipment.
