The Langenburg and Churchbridge communities will soon have a smootherconnection, as 17 km of Highway 16 linking the two towns is about to be
resurfaced.
"Work will begin on this $1 million project the week of July 17 and should be
completed by the end of August," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard
Sonntag said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 20 full-time
workers."
Potzus Construction Ltd. of Yorkton was awarded this project as the lowest of
seven bidders.
Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different
highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the
largest in the department's history.
"Highway 16 has seen a recent increase in truck traffic, which results in more
road damage taking place," Sonntag said. "We are working hard to address these
challenges by repairing high volume highways such as Highway 16."
Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for
construction signs and equipment.
