People with intellectual disabilities in the city got some help today to leadmore independent lives.
Social Services Minister Harry Van Mulligen announced $120,920 in annual
funding to H.E.L.P Homes of Regina. The funding will allow the agency to help
people with intellectual disabilities to live in their own home with some
support from the agency.
"Community-based organizations are our partners in helping ensure people with
intellectual disabilities achieve a better quality of life in the community,"
Van Mulligen said.
H.E.L.P Homes of Regina provides group homes for 18 adults who are
intellectually challenged in Regina. It also provides supportive living
services to help 16 intellectually challenged people live on their own,
services like shopping and preparing meals, home maintenance and budgeting and
leisure activities.
In 1999/2000, Social Services is providing more than $39 million to community-
based organizations that provide support for people with intellectual
disabilities. This 8.9 per cent increase over last year means individuals will
benefit from enhanced community-based programs and services.
