CASINO FUNDS HELP COMMUNITY GROUPS

Released on February 21, 2000

Two organizations in the Saskatoon area have received grants from the

Associated Entities Fund (AEF) to help support community programs.

The community groups that received funding are:

Greenhead Health District to assist in providing a stimulation and

active play group for pre-schoolers in Unity ($5,000).

Gabriel Springs Health District to host the 3rd Annual "Integrated

Response to Substance Abuse Prevention Program" symposium in Saskatoon

($2,000).

The Associated Entities Fund receives a portion of the profits from Casino

Regina, the Gold Eagle Casino in North Battleford, the Northern Lights Casino

in Prince Albert and the Painted Hand Casino in Yorkton. Money from the fund

is distributed four times a year to organizations throughout the province to

support a variety of community-based programs.

A total of forty-nine groups received more than $370,000. The grants will help

local organizations provide health, culture and sports and recreation programs

this winter.

"Since the fund was established in 1997, almost 6 million dollars in casino

profits has been distributed to over 300 organizations throughout the

province," Minister of Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing Clay Serby said.

"The province established the Associated Entities Fund to distribute a portion

of casino profits for the benefit of Saskatchewan people."

A complete list of organizations that received AEF grants is attached.
