TENDER AWARDED FOR RESURFACING

Released on December 4, 2000

A tender has been awarded to resurface a 15 km section of Highway 13 east of

Forget.

Langenburg Redi-Mix Ltd. of Langenburg was awarded this project as the lowest

of six bidders.

"Road work began on this $2 million project in October and will start again in

May 2001," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "The

project should be completed by late July 2001. Completion of this job will

require an estimated 53 full-time workers."

During the winter, gravel will be crushed for this project. From December

through February, travellers in the Kenosee and Lampman regions should be

watching for large trucks hauling gravel on Highways 9, 13, 47 and 361.

This resurfacing project will begin 11.5 km east of the junction of Highways 47

and 13 and will continue east.

Work on Highway 13 this fall was paid for by the provincial government's recent

$24 million injection into the budget to fix Saskatchewan roads. This brings

the Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation budget to a record $274 million, a

17 per cent increase over the 1999-2000 budget.

"The department is working hard to revitalize our highway network," Sonntag

said. "Motorists in this area will notice major improvements on this highway

once work is completed next construction season."
