SURFACING HIGHWAY 22 WEST OF LIPTON

Released on August 16, 2000

Highway 22 west of Lipton will receive 5.3 km of surfacing improvements with a

double seal coat to protect this highway from increased levels of traffic.

"Work on this $500,000 project will begin this week and is expected to be

completed by mid-September," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard

Sonntag said. "This job will create about 31 full-time positions."

W. F. Botkin Construction Ltd. of Regina was awarded this contract as the

lowest of five bidders.

Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different

highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the

largest in the department's history.

"We are working to maintain a safe and reliable highway network," Sonntag

said. "As our budget increases, so does our ability to preserve and maintain

provincial highways."

Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for

construction signs and equipment.
