ADDITION TO THE WILKIE FIRE HALL

Released on August 10, 2000

An addition to the Wilkie Fire Hall is being constructed to accommodate all the

emergency services for the area.

The addition will allow the existing Fire Hall to also accommodate the

Emergency Response vehicle and provide additional space for training.

The province is cost-sharing the project with five area municipalities. A

$30,000 grant from the Province's Centenary Fund has been provided toward the

$60,000 project.

The Emergency Response Unit is now being housed in a rented building, separate

from the Fire Hall.

"The addition to the Fire Hall will help improve the safety of residents in the

Wilkie area," Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister Jack Hillson

said. "Having all the emergency response equipment in one location will

improve efficiency and response time in the event of an emergency."

The newly expanded Fire Hall is expected to be complete this summer.

The Centenary Fund, announced in this year's Provincial Budget, supports

capital projects that are of provincial or regional interest and develop

municipal infrastructure in preparation for Saskatchewan's Centennial

celebrations in 2005.
