NEW NORTHERN REGIONAL LIBRARY HEADQUARTERS BUILDING

Released on August 1, 2000

The headquarters of the Pahkisimon Nuye?áh Library System (PNLS), in northern

Saskatchewan, will soon be located in a new building. The 10,500 square foot

building, to be built on land in Air Ronge, will provide a proper environment

for library materials and improved work space for staff.

The province will provide a total of $550,000 toward the new building through a

contribution from the Centenary Fund. PNLS will raise the remaining $150,000

to complete the project through donations of cash and goods-in-kind.

"The new facility will allow the library system to accommodate larger

collections and expand its services," Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing

Minister Jack Hillson said. "The expansion will meet future needs as

projections suggest the demand for library services in the north will double

within 10 years."

"The new regional library building will strengthen support for 50 public and

educational libraries across northern Saskatchewan," Northern Affairs Minister

Keith Goulet said. "The library is particularly important in providing

materials that reflect the cultures and interests of the north."

Planning and design of the new PNLS headquarters will begin immediately.

The Centenary Fund, announced in this year's Provincial Budget, supports

capital projects that are of provincial or regional interest and develop

municipal infrastructure in preparation for Saskatchewan's Centennial

celebrations in 2005.
