POS Pilot Plant Corporation in Saskatoon will undergo a significant upgrade
that will allow it to meet the highest food manufacturing standards and
regulations.
Saskatchewan Economic and Co-operative Development is providing $465,000 in
funding through the Strategic Initiatives Fund to help the company make
essential enhancements to its processing plant.
POS Pilot Plant is a non-profit research and development facility, which serves
the agri-food industry. The firm assists other companies in developing
technologies for processing biologically-based materials, mainly agricultural
products such as canola, cereal grains, pulses and other specialty crops.
"Consumers are becoming more health conscious and demanding that processed
foods meet the highest standards of health and safety," Economic and Co-
operative Development Minister Janice MacKinnon said. "The upgrades being made
will ensure POS Pilot Plant meets those standards and continues its excellent
reputation for leading-edge research."
"This government support will significantly improve our ability to deliver
programs in a Good Manufacturing Pratice (GMP) setting for the food and
neutraceutical industry," POS Pilot Plant Corporation President and CEO Bob
Morgan said. "Our enhanced pilot plant capabilities will ensure, for our
clients, strict quality and compliance to regulations underlie all of the
projects at POS."
Saskatchewan's Strategic Initiatives Fund was renamed the Strategic Investment
Fund in the recent provincial budget. Its mandate is to provide seed money and
fund feasibility studies, business plans and specialized technical equipment
purchases for the province's research firms.
