Released on March 3, 1999
Economic and Co-operative Development Minister Janice MacKinnon todayannounced support of $6,050 to the Good Spirit Regional Economic
Development Authority (REDA) to purchase equipment for its Business
Resource Centre. This one-stop' centre houses municipal, provincial
and federal organizations and provides advice to start-up and existing
businesses, helping to create new jobs and growth in the local
economy.
"REDAs have played an important role in community economic development
in Saskatchewan, helping us build a business climate that encourages
growth and job creation at both the local and provincial levels,"
MacKinnon said.
"This initiative by the Good Spirit REDA is another example of
co-operation at its best -- partnerships providing an invaluable
service to businesses and to their communities as a whole."
Funding comes from the REDA Enhancement Fund which assists REDAs to
further develop services for small business, establish one-stop
business service centres and initiate programs that promote economic
expansion. This fund is part of an additional $1.95 million directed
toward regional economic development in the 1998-99 budget.
"This REDA Enhancement funding will allow us to access
much-needed equipment for our Business Resource Centre," said
Phil Devos, Manager of the Good Spirit REDA. "This equipment
will better enable us to provide business training and education
to our membership."
REDAs have assisted in community business projects that range
from youth employment initiatives, to tourism-related projects,
to feasibility studies and recreation facilities.
"The REDA Enhancement Fund is one way we are living up to our
commitment to support community economic development and to work
with communities to provide jobs for Saskatchewan people,"
MacKinnon said.
