PAVING PROJECT AWARDED ON HIGHWAY 19

Released on June 8, 1999

Highways and Transportation Minister Judy Bradley today announced a

9.2 km paving project on Highway 19 north of Chaplin.



"This $747,000 project began in mid-May and is planned for completion

in early September, 1999," Bradley said. "An estimated 32 jobs will

be used to complete the project."



W.F. Botkin Construction Ltd. was awarded the contract for the paving

project as the lowest of seven bidders. Seal coating will also be

applied to the new pavement providing a waterproof, non-skid, anti-glare surface that protects the road bed from deterioration and

extends the life of the highway.



The Highway 19 paving project will be done from its junction with the

Trans-Canada Highway to 2.1 km north and from 2.5 km north of the

Trans-Canada Highway to 9.6 km north for a total distance of 9.2 km.

The $747,000 project cost includes department-supplied materials and

services.



"A $15 million increase in the department's budget this year means a

very busy construction season and crews will be working hard to

improve and repair Saskatchewan roads and highways," Bradley said.

"The increased funding demonstrates our commitment to preserving our

investment in the Saskatchewan Highway system."
