Two-thirds (66 per cent) of residents in the province support
the balanced approach taken in this year's provincial budget
(May, 1999).
The majority of respondents (52 per cent) in the June omnibus,
which excluded Regina, Saskatoon and southwest Saskatchewan
because of the by-elections, agree that future budgets should
take a balanced approach, with some new funds for services,
some for tax reductions, and some to keep reducing the debt.
Another 31 per cent of respondents would like to see future
budgets focus on increased funding for services like health,
education and highways.
Fourteen per cent of respondents would like to see a budget that
focuses on reducing the income taxes rather than on services and
debt reduction.
The majority of respondents (78 per cent) rated the quality of
health care they or their family received in the past 12 months
as either excellent or good according to government quarterly
polling (May, 1999).
The total cost for public opinion polling conducted by the
provincial government during the first quarter of 1999-2000 was
$52,870. This includes the $20,100 cost of the April omnibus
poll that was previously released.
