PREMIER THANKS TCHORZEWSKI AND MITCHELL FOR SERVICE

Released on January 14, 1999

Premier Roy Romanow today thanked Ed Tchorzewski and Bob Mitchell for

their service to the Province of Saskatchewan.

Romanow was responding to the announcement that Mr. Tchorzewski and

Mr. Mitchell will be resigning as Members of the Legislature effective

January 18, 1999.

"Ed Tchorzewski's contributions as an MLA and as a past Cabinet member

and Deputy Premier have been invaluable," Romanow said. "Throughout

his many years in public office, he has demonstrated integrity, good

judgement and leadership. It has been a privilege for me to have Ed

Tchorzewski as a member of my government. I would like to make

particular note of the work that Ed did as Minister of Finance in 1991

and 1992, when he started the process of eliminating Saskatchewan's

deficit budgets.

"Bob Mitchell has contributed greatly to our government and the

province. He has always been a source of advice that is both wise and

principled. Bob's work as Minister of Justice has helped keep

Saskatchewan communities free of the kind of crime present in other

jurisdictions and everyone will remember his strong opposition to the

federal gun registration law."
