FIXING HIGHWAYS NEAR MOOSOMIN

Released on August 3, 1999

Extensive roadwork is underway on Highway 8 near Moosomin. The $2

million project includes grading, surfacing and seal-coating 7.6 km of

Highway 8 south of Moosomin to the town limits.

Crews will be widening the existing road bed. A gravel surface will

be constructed and finished with a seal coat. This protects the new

road from deteriorating in the future.

"Motorists should be aware that heavy equipment will be operating on

this stretch of highway until work is completed in early September,"

Highways and Transportation Minister Judy Bradley said. "Drivers must

remember to slow down in the Orange Zone for the safety of the

motoring public and crews working to repair and maintain our highway

network."

Carmacks Enterprises Ltd will hire 75 people to complete the project.

Bradley says an increase in the department's budget this year of $15

million represents a strong commitment to maintaining Saskatchewan's

highway network.
