CASINO FUNDS SUPPORT HOT LUNCH PROGRAM

Released on April 22, 1999

Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister Carol Teichrob

announced today that the Metis Heritage-Melfort District Corporation

has received $3,400 from casino profits through the Associated

Entities Fund toward the Marguerite Riel Centre Lunch Program.

"The province established the Associated Entities Fund to distribute a

portion of casino profits for the benefit of Saskatchewan people,"

Teichrob said. "Since the beginning of 1997 more than $3 million in

casino profits have been distributed throughout Saskatchewan for

programs that support children, youth and families."

The Marguerite Riel Centre Lunch Program is run by the Metis

Heritage-Melfort District Corporation, in partnership with the

Aboriginal Womens Council and provides nutritious, hot lunches to

students. Parents are actively involved in this program and receive

hands-on experience with nutrition and budgeting.

The Associated Entities Fund receives a portion of the profits from

Casino Regina, the Gold Eagle Casino in North Battleford, the Northern

Lights Casino in Prince Albert and the Painted Hand Casino in Yorkton.
