ASSOCIATED ENTITIES FUND SUPPORTS 548 COMMUNITY PROJECTS IN SASKATCHEWAN

Released on September 18, 1998

Municipal Government Minister Carol Teichrob today announced that 548

community-based projects have received support from the Associated

Entities Fund (AEF) since the program began and she encouraged

community organizations to apply before the next application deadline

on Nov. 1, 1998.

"The AEF addresses community-identified needs that support programs

and services for vulnerable children, youth and families," Teichrob

said. "Since the program began, $2,937,427 has been distributed to

community organizations for these worthwhile projects."

The 548 projects involve a wide range of activities, such as:

a summer recreation program promoting healthy activities in

Shaunavon,

an outreach project for women in need and a summer fun project

for children with disabilities in Yorkton.

providing healthy snacks and meals to students in Rose Valley,

a summer reading program for inner city kids in Saskatoon,

a positive parenting program for teens in Meadow Lake,

substance abuse education and counseling in Green Lake, and

cross-cultural training and spiritual healing in communities near

La Ronge.

Requests for funding should be sent to one of the eleven Regional

Intersectoral Committees on Human Services. Eligible projects

which may qualify for funding include assistance for: nutrition

and hunger; sport, culture and recreation; crisis services;

health and well-being; educational and employment training; and

children with disabilities.

In addition to community organizations, the AEF distributes a

portion of casino profits to exhibition associations, and Metis

organizations. This year additional casino profits allowed the

AEF to support the valuable work of four hospital foundations

with a one-time $1.2 million investment to help acquire

specialized medical equipment.

Associated Entities Fund receives a portion of the profits from

Casino Regina, the Gold Eagle Casino in North Battleford, the

Northern Lights Casino in Prince Albert and the Painted Hand

Casino in Yorkton.
