PROVINCIAL FUNDING FOR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IN SHELLBROOK

Released on May 20, 1998

Education Minister Pat Atkinson today announced provincial funding for

54 renovation projects at schools throughout Saskatchewan. Among

those projects is the addition of two relocatable classrooms to

Shellbrook Elementary School in Parkland School Division.

"By investing in schools and investing in education, we are investing

in Saskatchewan children and in Saskatchewan's future," Atkinson said.

The two relocatable classrooms will help the school division address

classroom space shortages in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan. The project

will be completed by December, 1998. The department will continue to

work with the school division to meet the school facility needs of

this community.

"Projects like these demonstrate that we are committed to working with

school divisions to provide Saskatchewan students with safe and

well-equipped schools," Atkinson said. "This is about improving the

quality of education for Saskatchewan students."

Today's announcement is in addition to major construction projects

announced previously for Lloydminster, Moose Jaw, Consul, Estevan and

Saskatoon. The Provincial Government is investing $24 million in new

school construction and renovation for 1998-99.
