Released on March 20, 1998

Highways and Transportation Minister Judy Bradley has announced two

projects in this area as part of the province's $219 million

investment in highway construction and maintenance in 1998-99.

"The department is increasing funding and our construction and

maintenance levels to meet our commitment set out last year in the

provincial budget of spending $2.5 billion within 10 years to improve

our transportation system," Bradley said.

The highway work projects in your area are:

- Engineering to begin twinning on Highway No.1 east of Indian Head

- Pave Highway No. 8 & No. 48 W. of Fairlight to north of Fairlight

- 17 km

Further announcements will be made as the highway construction and

preservation projects are tendered and as the work gets underway in

this construction season.

"We are working to improve the highways in your area and across all

of Saskatchewan," Bradley said. "Safety is a primary concern so

this summer as you see the many construction zones, please drive

carefully and follow the 60 km speed limit in the Orange Zones."
