Economic and Co-operative Development Minister Janice MacKinnon and
Babcock & Wilcox Canada President Paul Koenderman today announced that
50 new jobs will be created with the expansion of business activities
at the Babcock & Wilcox plant in Melville. The company is hiring
local people to fill the new positions and moving in equipment from a
closed plant in the United States.
"This expansion is a vote of confidence in the strength of the
Saskatchewan economy and in our future," MacKinnon said. "Babcock &
Wilcox studied its entire North American operation and chose
Saskatchewan, and in particular, Melville, as a place to relocate some
of its production activities."
"Our Saskatchewan employees are very productive and have the best
safety record of all our North American facilities," Koenderman said.
"With Saskatchewan's competitive business environment, it made sense
for us to relocate a portion of our manufacturing activity from Paris,
Texas to Melville."
Based in Cambridge Ontario, Babcock & Wilcox Canada is the country's
largest manufacturer of steam generation products and services. The
Melville plant specializes in components for boilers that produce
power for industries and electric utilities across North America.
