CAPITAL APPROVAL ANNOUNCED
Released on June 1, 1998
Health Minister Clay Serby today announced approval in principle for
an addition of a community health facility to St. Paul's Lutheran Home
in Melville. Serby said the approval allows the North Valley Health
District to proceed with additional planning of the facility and to
finalize the project scope and cost.
It is expected that the new facility will integrate acute care
services, community based programs and district administration with
the existing long term care services.
"We are investing in quality health services," Serby said. "The
provincial contribution will be finalized once an agreement is reached
between the district and Saskatchewan Health."
Capital projects are funded based on a standard formula of 65 per cent
provincial and 35 per cent district funding, except in Regina,
Saskatoon and northern Saskatchewan.
Capital proposals are reviewed by a Capital Evaluation Committee that
includes staff from Saskatchewan Health and representatives of health
districts.
Approval-in-principle means that the project is a high provincial
priority. The approval allows the district to continue local
consultations, proceed with detailed facility design and outline
a proposed schedule for construction.
This year's capital budget is $44.9 million, including spending
on previously announced and newly approved projects.
