GRADING ANNOUNCED ON HIGHWAY NO. 165

Released on July 14, 1998

Highways and Transportation Minister Judy Bradley today announced

22.6 km of grading on Highway No. 165 (Besnard Lake Road).

"This $3.1 million project will see us complete planned upgrading on

Highway No. 165 from its junction with Highway No. 2 to its junction

with Highway No. 910," Bradley said.

North American Rock and Dirt Inc. was awarded the grading contract as

the lowest of five bidders. Grading will be done on Highway No. 165

from 33.4 km to 56.0 km north of its junction with Highway No. 2. An

estimated 33 jobs will be used in completing the project. Work began

in early July and weather permitting is planned for completion in late

fall, this year.

Previously a $2.8 million, 18.6 km grading project on Highway No. 165

from 14.8 km north of its junction with Highway No. 2 to 33.4 km north

had been started by Vector Enterprises Ltd. That project is planned

for completion in September 1998.

"We are working hard to improve our highways right across the

province," Bradley said. "We have committed to spending $2.5 billion

on our roads and highways over 10 years and the $50 million increase

to our department budget in the last two years has enabled us to have

a busy summer and fall construction program."
