LEGISLATURE TO RECONVENE ON MARCH 9TH

Released on February 18, 1998

Premier Roy Romanow today announced that the third session of the 23rd

Saskatchewan Legislature will open Monday, March 9th.

"We are looking forward to a productive session focused on the

priorities of the people of Saskatchewan - jobs, education, health

care, fundamental welfare reform, transportation and justice," Premier

Romanow said.

"We have turned the corner on our province's fiscal challenges. The

people of Saskatchewan are beginning to see the benefits of their hard

work and sacrifice. Together we are building a strong, growing

economy - and our province is investing in people.

"The Throne Speech will outline our legislative agenda, built around

this theme of Investing in People. The 1998-99 provincial budget will

detail how we will act on it.

"Our caucus and Cabinet have worked hard for months to prepare our

agenda for the session. We'll now await the federal budget, take a

few weeks to study its implications and then get down to work in the

House. We are planning a provincial budget on or around March 19th,"

Romanow said.
