YELLOWHEAD REDA LAUNCHED

Released on April 27, 1998

Economic and Co-operative Development Minister Janice MacKinnon and

Yellowhead Regional Economic Development Authority (REDA) Chairperson

Warren Vandenameele today officially launched the Yellowhead REDA in

Churchbridge.

Members of the Yellowhead REDA include the towns of Langenburg,

Churchbridge and Bredenbury, the village of MacNutt and the rural

municipalities of Langenburg and Churchbridge.

"REDAs play a key role in community economic development in

Saskatchewan," MacKinnon said. "They take a grassroots approach to

promote growth and create jobs at a local level.

"In this year's budget we reaffirmed our strong commitment to Regional

Economic Development Authorities by increasing our investment by

almost $2 million. This reflects the government's confidence in local

communities, which are crucial for continued growth and expansion in

Saskatchewan."

"We are extremely pleased with the formation of a Regional Economic

Development Authority in this area," Vandenameele said. "We see the

Yellowhead REDA as being the cornerstone of long term growth for the

entire region it encompasses."

REDAs allow municipal governments, community organizations,

private businesses and co-operatives to pool their

organizational, professional and financial resources in order to

encourage job creation and investment in the region.

"The opening of Saskatchewan's 25th REDA further strengthens our

network of Regional Economic Development Authorities across the

province," MacKinnon said. "The provincial government will

continue to work in partnership with REDAs to ensure all

communities in Saskatchewan can participate in our strong and

thriving economy."
