Social Services Minister Lorne Calvert today presented a cheque to theMeadow Lake Day Care to assist with the renovation of the day care
facility.
The $23,120.00 will go towards renovating the site to which the centre
has recently relocated. Renovations will include the addition of a
porch, air conditioning, fencing, some electrical work and painting,
new flooring and driveway and the construction of a shed.
"As a government we are working to ensure Saskatchewan children grow
up in healthy, safe environments," Calvert said. "I am very pleased
that we have been able to work in partnership with the Meadow Lake Day
Care to enhance conditions in this facility for the children of this
community."
The funding is part of the $1 million in Child Care Capital Grants
announced in the 1997/98 Budget. The Capital Grant funds are being
made available to child care centres for renovating and for upgrading
equipment, to enhance the safety and quality of child care in
Saskatchewan.
The Child Care Capital Grants are a one-year initiative introduced
through Saskatchewan's Action Plan for Children.
In 1997/98 more than $24.7 million was targeted to programs for
children and families under the Action Plan.
"Our children are our future," Calvert said. "We all need to
play a role in developing a safe supporting environment. I want
to commend the Meadow Lake Day Care board and staff for their
commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for
children."
