Social Services Minister Lorne Calvert today presented a cheque to theLanigan Co-operative Day Care to assist with the renovation of the Day
Care facility.
The $16,160.42 will go towards adding windows to the facility to
ensure that it meets the natural lighting requirements for a day care.
"As a government we are working to ensure Saskatchewan children grow
up in healthy and safe environments," Calvert said. "I am very
pleased that we have been able to work in partnership with the Lanigan
Co-operative Day Care to enhance conditions in this facility."
The funding is part of the $1 million in Child Care Capital Grants
announced in the 1997/98 Budget. The Capital grant funds are being
made available to child care centres for renovating and for upgrading
equipment, to enhance the safety and quality of child care in
Saskatchewan.
The Child Care Capital Grants are a one-year initiative introduced
through Saskatchewan's Action Plan for Children.
In 1997/98 more than $13.3 million was targeted to programs for
children and families under the Action Plan.
"Our children are our future," Calvert said. "We need to work
together to assist our children to become contributing members of
our society. I want to commend the Lanigan Co-operative Day Care
for their commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment
for children."
