ROMANOW ANNOUNCES OPENING OF SESSION

Released on February 5, 1997

Premier Roy Romanow today announced that the second session of the 23rd
Saskatchewan Legislature will open Thursday, March 6.

"Our cabinet and caucus have been hard at work for months on our
legislative priorities," Romanow said. "We look forward to this
session, which will provide the government with an opportunity to
introduce some of the most important measures we are likely to put
forward during this term of government.

"The Throne Speech will outline a legislative agenda implementing key
public priorities including measures addressing jobs, education, social
services reform, health care and transportation.

"The 1997-98 provincial budget will show how we will act on these
priorities.

"The key pillars of the provincial budget are now in place, but we will
wait for the federal budget and take a few weeks to study its
implications before finalizing Saskatchewan's 1997-98 budget. We are
therefore planning a provincial budget on or around Mar. 20," Romanow
said.
