GOVERNMENT PROVIDES FUNDS FOR RENOVATIONS TO CHILD CARE CENTRE

Released on December 4, 1997

Social Services Minister Lorne Calvert today presented a cheque to the

Buffalo Narrows Day Care Centre to assist with renovation of the day

care facility.

The $3,642.96 will go towards adding windows to the facility to ensure

it meets the natural lighting requirements for a day care.

"Thousands of Saskatchewan children attend licensed day care centres

every day," Calvert said. "As a government we want to help to ensure

those centres provide a safe, healthy environment for children. I am

very pleased that we have been able to work in partnership with the

Buffalo Narrows Day Care Centre to improve conditions in this

facility."

Funding for the Buffalo Narrows facility is part of the $1 million in

Child Care Capital Grants announced in the 1997/98 provincial budget.

The Capital Grant funds are being made available to child care centres

for renovating and for upgrading equipment to enhance the safety and

quality of child care in Saskatchewan.

The Child Care Capital Grants are a one-year initiative introduced

through Saskatchewan's award-winning Action Plan for Children.

"Our children are our future," Calvert said. "How we, as adults,

care for our children today will greatly affect the quality of

that future. I commend the Buffalo Narrows Day Care Centre for

their commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for

the children of this community."
