MINISTER APPROVES RENOVATIONS FOR WADENA HIGH SCHOOL

Released on April 29, 1997

Education Minister Pat Atkinson today announced that the Department of

Education will fund further renovations to Wadena High School during

1997. The total cost of the project will be approximately $1.2 million

with provincial funding of approximately $745,000.

"In March, the government released a good news budget for education,"

Atkinson said. "Capital grants to help upgrade and modernize our

schools increased by $5 million this year. It is because of this

increase that I am able to make this announcement today. This project

will enhance the quality of education and have lasting benefits for

Wadena students and the surrounding area."

Wadena High School was initially renovated during 1995. The new

renovations will complete the original project and will also include

mechanical system and corridor upgrades, a connecting corridor and

resource centre addition and renovations to accommodate resources,

staff and computer labs.
