KING GEORGE SCHOOL TO BE RESTORED AND RENOVATED

Released on April 9, 1997

Education Minister Pat Atkinson today announced that King George School
in Moose Jaw will receive a major renovation and restoration over the
next year.

"The restoration and renovations to King George School will provide
upgraded learning spaces such as a computer lab and resource centre
more suited to modern programs," Atkinson said. "By improving the
quality of our educational facility in this vibrant community we are
ensuring the school functions well as a learning facility for students,
as a work place for teachers and a meeting place for the community."

Moose Jaw School Division Chair Herb Linsley said the renovations will
serve students in the community very well. "The exterior of the school
will be maintained to be consistent with the community objective of
preserving historic buildings," Linsley said. "The upgraded interior
and mechanical systems will be more efficient to operate and will
result in operational cost savings, as well as a much better learning
and teaching environment."

"In March the Government released a good news budget for education,"
Atkinson said. "Capital grants to help upgrade and modernize our
schools increased by five million dollars this year. It is because of
this increase that I am able to make this announcement today."

The total project cost is still to be determined and will be
cost-shared with the school division. There are approximately 371 K-8
students who attend King George School.
