1998 SASKATCHEWAN WINTER GAMES AGREEMENT SIGNED

Released on April 4, 1997

Highways and Transportation Minister, Andy Renaud, on behalf of
Municipal Government Minister Carol Teichrob today signed a multiparty
agreement formalizing the financial arrangements for the 1998
Saskatchewan Winter Games to be held in Nipawin from February 22 to 28,
1998.

Others signing the agreement were Oren Robison, mayor of Nipawin, Tim
Verklan, chair of the 1998 Saskatchewan Winter Games Corporation and
Marlene Hoffman, chair of the Saskatchewan Games Council.

Renaud and Hoffman presented a cheque for $235,000 in lottery funding
to the host committee.

"Nipawin has undertaken a number of capital improvements in preparation
for these games, including upgrading of skiing facilities and
improvements to the Jubilee Arena and other facilities," Renaud said.
"The enthusiasm in the community is obvious as shown by the support
from town council and the more than 1,500 volunteers prepared to work
at these games."

"The community of Nipawin has done a great deal of planning and has the
experience to host a first class winter games," Hoffman said.

Nearly 2,000 athletes, coaches, managers and officials will participate
in the games.
