GRAVELBOURG WATER SYSTEM TO BE BUILT

Released on September 23, 1996

Eldon Lautermilch, minister responsible for Sask Water, and Gravelbourg
Mayor Claude Piche‚ today announced that construction of a $1.9 million
water supply and treatment system for the town will begin in Jan. 1997.

"Sask Water has been working with the people of Gravelbourg and area
for some time to find a way to supply the community with quality
water," Lautermilch said. "The corporation will upgrade the existing
water treatment plant and build a new water supply pipeline from
Thomson Lake to Gravelbourg. The people of Gravelbourg can expect to
begin receiving an assured supply of good quality water in August of
next year."

Eighteen jobs will be created during the construction phase.
Construction is scheduled to begin in Jan. 1997, with upgrading of the
existing water treatment plant. Installation of the new raw water
supply pipeline and upgrading of the existing pumping station will
begin in Apr. 1997, with completion scheduled for Aug. 1997.

"Town council has been trying to improve our water supply and quality
for some time," Piche‚ said. "Sask Water has worked with us to evaluate
a number of options. We chose this alternative and felt the time was
right to have Sask Water help us upgrade our system."

The existing raw water supply pipeline which currently supplies
Gravelbourg does not fully meet the community's water demands and the
drinking water has taste and odour problems during the summer.

The system will be owned and operated by Sask Water with the
corporation's initial investment recovered through water charges to the
community.
