GRAIN DRYING INFORMATION AVAILABLE

Released on October 25, 1996

Agriculture and Food Minister Eric Upshall today urged producers
interested in doing custom grain drying, and grain companies with grain
drying capabilities, to notify the Feed Grain and Forage Listing
Service.

"Due to the lateness of the harvest and the recent weather delays, many
producers are having to take their crops off damp or wet and will need
to dry down the grain," Upshall said. "The Feed Grain and Forage
Listing Service provides a central location for the listing of feed,
forage and custom services and for obtaining information on these
supplies and services. We have added custom grain drying to the
listing service to help deal with the grain drying needs of
Saskatchewan producers."

The service can be reached at 1-800-667-7564 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Monday to Friday. Information available through the service is
compiled and published periodically, with copies sent to rural
municipal offices and Rural Service Centres in Saskatchewan.

Upshall also urged producers to utilize the information and services
available from the department regarding grain drying.

"Given the extent of the late harvest and the amount of harvested grain
that is tough or damp, many farmers who have not had to deal with the
problem before are looking for information," Upshall said. "In
anticipation of the need, the department has updated technical
information and reprinted a grain drying publication."

The publication, Natural Air Grain Drying, prepared by Extension
Service, can be obtained through Rural Service Centres. Upshall said
extension agrologists are available to answer questions about grain
drying methods.
