NEW SASKATCHEWAN ARTS BOARD MEMBERS APPOINTED

Released on May 17, 1996

Carol Teichrob, minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Arts Board,
today announced the appointment of six new members to the board.

The new members are: Rupert James, a partner of Ernst & Young,
Chartered Accountants, Regina; Gursh Madhur, a production facilitator
at Cable Regina; Sheila Petty, head of the Film and Video Department,
University of Regina; Burton SmokeyDay, a writer and film maker,
Tisdale; Barbara Terfloth, a visual artist, Prince Albert; and Kathy
Thiessen, a vocalist and president of the Station Arts Centre,
Rosthern.

Teichrob also congratulated the board members who were reappointed.
Returning are: Cheryl Kloppenburg, Chair, Saskatoon; Paul Rezansoff,
Vice-chair, Swift Current; Irene Fraser, Saskatoon; Marguerite
Gallaway, Estevan; Larry Warwaruk, Outlook; and Don Kerr, Saskatoon.

In announcing the appointments, Teichrob said the members of the
Saskatchewan Arts Board are committed to fulfilling the mandate of this
provincial agency which is to support and develop the arts and artists
in Saskatchewan. The public programming in the arts offered through
the work of individual artists, groups and organizations assisted by
the Saskatchewan Arts Board provides employment, tourism and community
enjoyment, and contributes to Saskatchewan's economy.

"The members of the Saskatchewan Arts Board reflect the diversity of
Saskatchewan's population," Teichrob said. "They represent rural and
urban communities, and business, professional, educational, arts and
volunteer sectors. Their experience, enthusiasm and commitment will
work to serve the people and their communities in this province, and
encourage the development of the arts and artists in Saskatchewan."
