WORKERS' COMPENSATION BOARD TO BE REVIEWED
Released on May 10, 1996
Labour Minister Doug Anguish today announced the appointment of the 1996 Workers' Compensation Act Committee of Review. The Act provides that at least once every four years a committee be established to review and report on all matters concerning the legislation and its administration by the Workers' Compensation Board.
The Committee of Review will be chaired by Joan Skingle of Regina. Ms. Skingle is Executive Director of the University of Regina Faculty Association and has extensive experience in the practice and teaching of financial administration.
Employer representatives are Jack Hardy, Safety Officer with the Prairie Implement Manufacturers Association, and Susan Hay, Claims Management Coordinator with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. Employee representatives are Virginia Kutzan with the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses, and Richard Johnson with the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers' Union.
The committee has been given broad terms of reference to ensure a comprehensive review. When technical advice is required, the committee will be able to call on the services of independent experts such as Bruce Neville of Nexus Actuarial Consultants. Neville conducted a study of the Workers' Compensation Board's rates and rate setting process in January.
The Committee of Review will receive submissions from individuals and organizations and report to the minister by December 31, 1996.
