MACKINNON ANNOUNCES BUDGET RELEASE DATE

Released on March 8, 1996

Finance Minister Janice MacKinnon today announced the 1996-97 provincial
budget will be presented in the Legislative Assembly the afternoon of
Thursday, March 28.

"The Preparing for the New Century public consultation process our
government recently completed around the province clearly indicated the
priorities of Saskatchewan residents are job creation, holding the line
on taxes, and health care, education and social programs. Our budget
will reflect these priorities.

"Saskatchewan's economy continues to grow, with increases in retail
sales, manufacturing shipments, oil production, and an above average
grain harvest last autumn," MacKinnon said. "These results will help the
provincial government to deal with the cuts in federal transfer payments
when it presents its new four-year financial plan on March 28."
