RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM EXTENDED

Released on February 23, 1996

Municipal Government Minister Carol Teichrob today announced the
provincial government will continue to cost share and deliver the
Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) for 1996. RRAP
provides financial assistance to low-income homeowners to repair their
homes.

"The provincial government is pleased that the federal government has
extended RRAP for another year," Teichrob said. "Extension of this
program to March 31, 1997 is expected to create about 50 jobs in
Saskatchewan and provide assistance to nearly 230 households."

RRAP provides assistance in the form of forgivable and repayable loans to
low-income homeowners for repairs which are required to bring their
dwellings up to health and safety standards. RRAP is also available to
make housing accessible for persons with disabilities.

Municipal Government Housing Division became the delivery agent for these
programs in Saskatchewan in 1994. Funding for the program is cost shared
on a 75 per cent federal and 25 per cent provincial basis.

Enquiries about this program should be directed to the Housing Division
of the Department of Municipal Government at 787-4177 or toll free at
1-800-667-7567.
