IRENE WHITE APPOINTED TO ROYAL VICTORIAN ORDER

Released on June 27, 1995

Irene White, private secretary to the lieutenant-governor of
Saskatchewan since 1986, has been appointed by the Queen as a member of
the Royal Victorian Order for her personal services to the Crown and
the royal family.

The announcement was made today by Lt.-Gov. Jack Wiebe following
official notification from Buckingham Palace.

Irene White has served three lieutenant-governors: Frederick Johnson
until 1988, Sylvia Fedoruk from 1988 to 1994, and Jack Wiebe. She is
credited with transforming the office into a proactive, high-profile
operation and assisting three lieutenant-governors with a major
expansion of vice-regal activities in the province.

White previously served as secretary to the chair of the Saskatchewan
Public Service Commission and secretary in the office of the deputy
minister of health.

Originally from Rosetown, White was also employed in government offices
in Swift Current.

The Royal Victorian Order, founded by Queen Victoria in 1896 to
recognize personal services to the sovereign, is conferred personally
by the reigning monarch. Part of the Canadian honors system, the order
has three grades open to Canadians: commander (CVO), lieutenant (LVO),
and member (MVO).

It is expected that White will receive her medal from the Queen later
this year at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace. She is only the second
person in Saskatchewan to be appointed to the order and one of two
people to receive the MVO in Canada this year.
