Premier Roy Romanow today announced the Saskatchewan Legislature willreconvene Monday, Feb. 6, 1995.
The session will open with a Speech from the Throne. Finance Minister
Janice MacKinnon will present the provincial budget Thursday, Feb. 16.
Romanow said that job creation and economic development opportunities
for young people are the provincial government's top priorities.
"The Saskatchewan economy is making a remarkable comeback and it is our
priority to turn this new growth into long-term jobs and new training
opportunities, both to keep our young people here at home and to give
Saskatchewan employers access to skilled workers," Romanow said.
"The province has the financial ability to help create jobs for young
people because we remain on target to balance the provincial budget.
Because Saskatchewan people were willing to contribute to getting our
deficit under control we now have the freedom to take full advantage of
our economic recovery."
Romanow said the government also remains committed to strengthening and
expanding the agricultural sector.
"I am encouraged by the amount of diversification and innovation taking
place in the agricultural sector. Agricultural diversification showed
results in 1994 in new investment and jobs."
Romanow also said there will be a continued focus on health care
renewal to secure the future of medicare for the 21st century.
"I am looking forward to an orderly and business-like session that will
build on the growth we're already seeing in this province."
