PREMIER ANNOUNCES SHIFT IN CABINET RESPONSIBILITIES

Released on February 20, 1995

Premier Roy Romanow today announced changes to cabinet responsibilities
as a result of the resignation of Bob Mitchell as minister of justice.

Ned Shillington becomes minister of justice and attorney-general,
effective immediately.

Deputy Premier Ed Tchorzewski becomes associate minister of finance and
minister responsible for the Crown Investments Corporation. In
addition, he maintains his previous responsibilities as provincial
secretary.

"It is with sincere regret that I accept Bob Mitchell's resignation
from cabinet," Romanow said. "He has served the government, and the
people of Saskatchewan with grace, dignity and civility.

"He has chosen the appropriate and honorable course and I commend him
for this very difficult decision."

Romanow said the decision not to add a minister reduces the size of
cabinet to 17 ministers including the premier, the smallest number
since September, 1993.

"Ned Shillington and Ed Tchorzewski are strong members of our team and
bring experience and dedication to their new duties. We continue to
have a cabinet that is efficient and effective and able to pursue the
goals outlined in the speech from the throne, and last week's
provincial budget."
