SASKATCHEWAN TRANSPORTATION COMPANY PASSENGER FARES INCREASE

Released on December 21, 1995

The Saskatchewan Highway Traffic Board has approved a rate increase for
passenger fares charged by the Saskatchewan Transportation Company
(STC) effective January 1, 1996, Chair Bob Long announced today.

STC was approved to add a $.50 flat rate and adjust the mileage fare by
$.005. Depending on the route, the adjustment will be between $.50 and
$1.70 per fare.

This is the first STC passenger fare increase approved by the board
since 1993.

"This is a moderate increase. It is consistent with fare adjustments
and trends set by regulatory agencies in other western provinces this
year," Long said.

The Highway Traffic Board is the regulatory agency in Saskatchewan
which reviews rates for passenger and express service. The Board
determined that the adjusted fares would more accurately reflect STC's
operating and maintenance budgets needed to continue service to 230
communities in the province.
