JONES APPOINTED DEPUTY MINISTER OF FINANCE

Premier Roy Romanow today announced the appointment of Bill Jones as
deputy minister of finance.

His appointment is effective April 17.

"Mr. Jones has provided the public service with professional and
dedicated service for the past 17 years," Romanow said. "I am very
pleased that he has accepted this new challenge."

Jones has worked for the department of finance in various capacities
since 1978. For the past five years he has served as associate deputy
minister of finance and general manager of the municipal financing
corporation.

Prior to his career with finance, Jones spent five years as a lecturer
at the University of Guelph and Queen's University and one year as a
lecturer at the University of Regina. He graduated in 1973 with a BA
(Honors) and an MA in Economics from the University of Guelph and has
completed all requirements but the dissertation for his PhD in
economics at Queen's University.

"I look forward to working with Bill in his new position and am
confident that the province will benefit from the talent and ability he
will bring to the job," Romanow said.
Jones replaces John Wright who recently accepted the position of
president of SGI.

Romanow also expressed his sincere appreciation to John Wright for the
hard work and expertise he brought to his position.

"John Wright showed tremendous dedication and will long be remembered
for his role in helping the government balance the budget and develop a
long-term plan to eliminate the province's debt."
