Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund

On March 10, 2025, the governments of Saskatchewan and Canada announced a 10-year agreement under the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF).

With the new fund, communities across Saskatchewan will be able to build or improve the critical infrastructure related to drinking water, wastewater, stormwater and solid waste in order to support more homes.

The province will receive $187.9 million through the CHIF program to address housing-enabling infrastructure priorities. In addition, the Government of Saskatchewan is committing approximately $155 million toward this program.

Apply

On April 22, 2025, a group of eligible Saskatchewan communities were invited to submit applications for funding through the provincial-territorial stream of the CHIF, with applications due by May 20, 2025. For this initial intake, these communities must have been approved for the federal Housing Accelerator Funding (HAF) or be communities with at least 30,000 residents. At this time, Government Relations will only be accepting applications from Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Moosomin, La Ronge, Radisson, Outlook and Humboldt. This ensures that the submitted projects meet the housing requirements under this CHIF cost-share requirement.

The next intake for CHIF funding applications will begin in mid-September for all eligible Saskatchewan municipalities. Details about this intake will be shared directly with all eligible municipalities and posted on this website once they are available.

We encourage communities to start planning for the fall intake.

Applications for the initial federal funding portion to support pressing drinking water, wastewater, stormwater and solid-waste infrastructure needs closed on March 31, 2025, at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Thank you to those who applied.

In recognition of the unique infrastructure and housing needs and realities in Indigenous communities, Indigenous applicants will have until May 20, 2025, at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) to submit their applications.
