COVID-19 Cases in Schools
The Omicron variant of COVID-19 is more transmissible with a very short incubation period and many cases remain asymptomatic, which makes contact tracing and case management protocols less effective in preventing transmission. Public health will continue to investigate severe cases and shift resources to focus on outbreak management in settings where the risk of severe health outcomes is highest.
While outbreaks related to educational settings will no longer be investigated, these venues and organizations will continue to be supported by local public health with transmission mitigation planning and standard surveillance protocols.
