Province Recognizes Canadian Fertility Awareness Week April 19 to 25

Released on April 23, 2026

Today, the Government of Saskatchewan acknowledges Canadian Fertility Awareness Week (CFAW), observed this year from April 19 to 25. Led by the national organization Fertility Matters, the annual initiative is dedicated to raising public awareness around fertility and its impact on over one in six Canadians.

The Government of Saskatchewan introduced the Fertility Treatment Tax Credit under the Saskatchewan Affordability Act, effective January 1, 2025.

“Helping individuals and couples seek fertility treatment across the province, reflects our government’s commitment to put patients first,” Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill said. “The Fertility Treatment Tax Credit will support as many as 300 families annually on their journey to parenthood by alleviating some of the financial costs”.

The Saskatchewan Fertility Treatment Tax Credit is a one-time, refundable benefit that covers 50 per cent of eligible fertility treatment expenses, including prescription drug costs, incurred within the province. Individuals can claim expenses up to $20,000, resulting in a maximum personal income tax refund of $10,000 per claimant.

Individuals may claim this new Fertility Treatment Tax Credit while also continuing to claim all eligible medical expenses under the Medical Expense Tax Credit.

Infertility can affect Canadian adults of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds.
