Released on April 13, 2026
The Government of Saskatchewan is proclaiming April 12-18, 2026, as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. This week celebrates the hard work and dedication of the 9-1-1 call takers, dispatchers, and technicians who help keep people safe across the province.
"Telecommunicators are essential in protecting Saskatchewan," Community Safety Minister Michael Weger said. "They make sure the information you give during a 9-1-1 call is passed on quickly and accurately to the emergency responders coming to help you. We value the important role they play in saving lives."
This week is a chance to recognize and thank the people who devote their careers to serving the public.
In Saskatchewan, trained professional 9-1-1 staff work from centres in Regina, Saskatoon and near Prince Albert. These telecommunicators answered more than 555,000 calls in 2025. Additionally, individual police, EMS and fire services also have telecommunicators that take thousands of calls in their emergency response centres.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) provides dispatching and monitoring services across the province. They work closely with volunteer and professional first responders, as well as provincial and municipal partners, to support safety, protection and emergency response.
National Public Safety Telecommunicators week is observed annually during the second full week of April.
