The application period for the 2026-27 Saskatchewan Veterans Service Club Support Program has opened and runs until May 15, 2026.
Introduced in 2019-20, the program provides grants up to $30,000 to veterans organizations such as Legion branches, Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans (ANAVETS) units and more.
The grant is used to support facility upgrades, events and other activities to advance the work and help strengthen the long-term sustainability of veteran service organizations throughout the province.
"Our government is proud to continue to support veterans, their families, and their communities through this program," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross said. "Over the years, this program has helped strengthen the long-term sustainability of Saskatchewan veterans' service organizations and improve the quality of life in our province. We can't thank our veterans' service clubs enough, for their tireless work on behalf of our communities."
For 2025-26, grants totaling $1.45 million were provided to 67 Legion branches, ANAVETS units, and other registered, non-profit veterans organizations throughout the province.
Minister Ross was joined in Stoughton by representatives from Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command to see first-hand the improvements at Branch 133 that were funded through the program.
Last year, Branch 133 in Stoughton received more than $27,000 to help with kitchen renos and upgrade the fire suppression system. In previous years, the Branch received funding for flooring for the lounge and meeting room, LED lighting, painting and new chairs, in addition to minor interior and exterior renovations and a new sign for the facility.
Branch 133 in Stoughton has received more than $ 113,000 in funding through the program since 2019-20.
"On behalf of the branch these renovations have allowed us to put new flooring in our lounge and kitchen and bathrooms," Branch 133 Secretary Karen Coderre said. "We have also installed a new island in the kitchen, purchased chairs for the lounge and renovated our kitchen cooking area to meet health standards with a new flat grill, new exhaust hood and a fresh air make up unit. Without the help of the service grant we would not have been able to do all these updates."
For 2026, the Branch is looking at making the entrance energy efficient by removing the glass front and installing insulated walls and steel insulated doors.
