Ron Styles announced today that he will retire from his position as SaskTel President and CEO effective July 1, 2017.A career public servant, Styles leaves SaskTel, the corporation he has led since 2010, and his seventh senior posting in the Saskatchewan public service.
“Ron has been an advocate for SaskTel, championing the Crown’s vision of being the best at connecting people to their world,” SaskTel Board Chairman Grant Kook said. “He has spent his career working for the good of the province. I want to thank him for all that he has done during his tenure at SaskTel, and throughout his leadership roles.”
“My 38 years in the Saskatchewan public service have been very rewarding,” Styles said. “I look forward to new challenges going forward and I want to thank both the board and staff at SaskTel for their support over the past seven years.”
Since 2010, SaskTel has opened a Tier III data centre – a world-class facility outfitted with cutting edge technology; built the largest Wi-Fi network available in Saskatchewan; extended fibre optics to more than 200,000 households; and completed the expansion of LTE across Saskatchewan making it the largest geographic continuous LTE network in Canada.
“Ron has been instrumental in SaskTel’s success since 2010,” Minister Responsible for SaskTel Dustin Duncan said. “Under his leadership, the corporation has made gains in technology and competitive advancement that is remarkable for a regional telco. We want to thank him for that.”
Styles will continue to provide advice and consultation to the government on matters relating to the telecommunications and information technology sectors. With the increasing speed of technological evolution, rapid deregulation, and competitive pressures in the sector, he will provide valuable insight into future decisions for the Crown.
His career includes previous senior roles as President of Crown Investments Corporation, Deputy Minister of Finance, Deputy Minister of Highways and Transportation, President of SaskWater, President of SaskHousing, and senior roles at Municipal Government and Community Services. In 2014 he received the prestigious Lieutenant Governor’s Gold Medal for his exceptional leadership and contribution in public administration.
Doug Burnett, currently Vice President of Human Resources and Corporate Services, will assume the Acting President and CEO role effective July 1, 2017.
