Government Redevelops Rowan's Ravine Marina and Dock

Released on September 7, 2016

The Government of Saskatchewan is allocating nearly $1 million into the redevelopment of the marina and dock at Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park.

“Saskatchewan’s provincial parks are places where visitors come to relax and reconnect with nature,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said.  “This project will restore access to the lake and enhance the visitor experience at Rowan’s Ravine.”

The marina facilities were severely damaged in April 2015 from a combination of high water levels and ice movement on Last Mountain Lake.  Since then, the marina has been unusable and significant work is required to restore it to an operational state.  The project will include the installation of a new floating dock and anchoring system.

The re-establishment of the marina will be welcomed by visitors to Rowan’s Ravine, as the park is popular for boating and an important access point to Last Mountain Lake.

Funding for this project is being provided through the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) and redevelopment work will begin this fall.  The successful bidder on this project is Harbuilt Construction Ltd. of Moosomin and the marina is scheduled to be substantially complete by the 2017 parks season.

In 2015, government met its commitment of investing an additional $10 million over four years into the provincial park system, for a total investment of $53 million in capital projects and maintenance over that four year timeframe.  Projects undertaken during this commitment include the development of two new campgrounds, upgrading or replacement of service centres, extensive campsite electrical expansion and upgrading, water and wastewater system upgrades, new and enhanced boat launches, and new campsite furnishings.

Total funding for the provincial parks system since 2007 is more than $200 million.  This funding includes capital expenditures and investment, operational funding, and parks programming.
