The prominent role of the mining industry in the province’s continued growth is the focus of Saskatchewan Mining Week, which was officially proclaimed today by Economy Minister Bill Boyd in Regina.Organized by the Saskatchewan Mining Association, the theme of this year’s Mining Week is “Mining: Pillar of Saskatchewan’s Economy”.
“With almost $30 billion in total potash and uranium capital investment since 2007, the importance of mining to Saskatchewan’s diversified economy is worth taking a look at,” Boyd said. “Mining Week is an opportunity for people to discover that there is much more to this industry in Saskatchewan than meets the eye.”
The Fraser Institute’s 2015 Survey of Mining Companies, an annual international survey of exploration, development and mining-related companies, ranks Saskatchewan as the number one jurisdiction for mining investment attractiveness in Canada and the second most attractive jurisdiction in the world. In 2015, $211 million was invested in mineral exploration in Saskatchewan.
Events during Saskatchewan Mining Week include presentations from some of Saskatchewan’s most prominent mining companies and industry associations, as well as the 48th Annual Emergency Response/Mine Rescue Skills Competition.
